IMAGINING EXHIBITIONS
WITH ANTONIA ALAMPI, VLADIYA MIHAILOVA AND VIKTORIA DRAGANOVA

A conversation on imaginary geographies, emotional spaces, on desire, consumption and exhaustion, on excess and collaps, on pathos, on financial capitalism and financial abstraction, on surfaces, on superficiality, on kitsch, disco, and on pain;

and

on imagination as productive force, on exhibitions as a way to see parallel realities, on art as a way to see other perspectives; finally, on small-size institutions and their potential to overcome borders.

Within the talk all parts of States of Flux from Sunny Beach, Sofia and Frankfurt will be presented. The presentation will be accompanied by short readings from “Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino as well as a screening of the film “Records from the Excited State – Chapter 3: Lost Referents of Some Attraction” by Malak Helmy from 2012.

 
 

Antonia Alampi (via Skype) is an art historian, curator, and writer based in Berlin. She is the co-founder of Future Climates, a platform that aims to propose viable futures for independent cultural practice
and recently joined the artistic team of Savvy Contemporary in Berlin. Previously, Alampi was curator of Beirut, an art initiative and exhibition space in Cairo, and director of its Imaginary School Program.

Vladiya Mihailova is a cultural theorist and curator based in Sofia. Since 2007, Vladiya is the curator Vaska Emanoulova Gallery, a sub-branch of Sofia City Art Gallery, as well as initiator of many independent projects.

Viktoria Draganova is the co-curator of “States of Flux” (together with Gergana Todorova) and director of Swimming Pool, Sofia. Viktoria is lives between Frankfurt and Sofia.
