Michal Novotný is the director of Centre for contemporary art FUTURA in Prague, external curator at PLATO Ostrava. He teaches at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. In 2018 he curated Orient, large exhibition survey into once called Eastern European art taking place in Kim?, Riga, BOZAR, Brussels and Bunkier Sztuki in Krakow. He opened School of Pain, dealing with the legacy of Sade and Sacher von Masoch for contemporary art in Art in General, New York, as much as Deux Sens du Decoratif at CAC Passerelle in Brest that opened the question whether decorative may be taken as subversive artistic position nowadays. Recent curatorial research projects and residencies include Delfina Foundation, London (2016); Stroom Den Haag, Haag (2015); Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans (2014); Contemporary Art Museum, Rijeka (2014); Villa Arson, Nice (2013).
Centre for Contemporary Art FUTURA is one of the largest non governmental non-profit operating art organisations in Czech republic. It was established in 2003, and operates two exhibition venues FUTURA gallery with a surface of more than 1000 m2, and Karlin Studios connecting exhibition hall and AIR FUTURA artist in residency program studios. FUTURA established and is founding member of VARP NY artist in residency program in New York program.
